Science Talk: Vaccine Made With Synthetic Gene Protects Against Deadly Pneumonia

February 22, 2011 – Researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, led by Liise-anne Pirofski, M.D., have developed an experimental vaccine that appears to protect against an increasingly common and particularly deadly form of pneumococcal pneumonia, which infects 175,000 Americans a year. The study was published in the February 22 online edition of the Journal of Infectious Diseases. See accompanying release (February 22, 2011)
