For as long as Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University has existed, its National Women's Division has made the Spirit of Achievement Luncheon its annual rite of spring. The event benefits medical research and education programs at Einstein and honors outstanding individuals in fields such as the arts, business, journalism, government and philanthropy. This year’s honorees are: biotech analyst and co-founder of personal genetics company 23andMe, Anne Wojcicki; maternity fashion pioneer Liz Lange; and distinguished Einstein faculty member Francine H. Einstein, M.D., associate professor of obstetrics & gynecology and women's health and of medicine, when the Women's Division's New York Chapter hosts its 59th Spirit of Achievement Luncheon on Tuesday, April 30, at the Plaza Hotel, in Manhattan. Willie Geist, a co-host of NBC's Today show and of MSNBC's popular "Morning Joe," will donate his time and talent as luncheon emcee for the fifth consecutive year. Emmy Award winning TV personality Jill Martin will host a presentation of fashions featured by luxury boutique 25 Park. The luncheon chairs are Alison Brettschneider, Janet Hershaft, Tara Mark Rosenblum and Andrea Stark.
Proceeds from the Spirit Luncheon will help advance important research studies aimed at the discovery of innovative ways to treat, prevent – and ultimately cure -- gynecologic cancers (ovarian, cervical and uterine) and breast cancer. As a testament to the scientific excellence of its researchers, the Albert Einstein Cancer Center (AECC) has received continuous funding from the National Cancer Institute since 1972.
