Job Title:
Postdoctoral Position in Neuroscience - Research in mGluRs
Job Description:
A postdoctoral position is available immediately for a highly motivated and qualified candidate in the Department of Neuroscience at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Research in the laboratory focuses on metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs)that - together with ionotropic glutamate receptors - mediate glutamate excitatory actions in the brain. MGluRs are members of the large gene superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors and are enriched at excitatory synapses, where they serve to modulate glutamatergic transmission. Signaling by mGluRs is implicated in cortical development, activity-dependent synaptic plasticity and neuropsychiatric disorders including schizophrenia, drug addiction and fragile X syndrome, the single most common inherited cause of mental retardation. We use molecular, biochemical, proteomic and imaging approaches in cell-based and knockout mouse models to elucidate the role of recently identified mGluR-interacting proteins in receptor signaling and trafficking at synaptic sites. A major objective of our studies is to define how molecular interactions in specialized membrane microdomains affect mGluR-dependent synaptic plasticity under physiopathological conditions.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent and have expertise in molecular and cell biology methods. Prior experience in work with primary neuronal cultures and knockout mouse models is preferred. Please send curriculum vitae, a description of research experience and contact information of three references to:;
