Catherine Skae, M.D., D.Sc., Appointed Vice President for Graduate Medical Education at Montefiore

Also Named Einstein's Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education for Montefiore

NEW YORK -- (June 25, 2013) — Catherine C. Skae, M.D., D.Sc., has been appointed vice president for Graduate Medical Education at Montefiore Medical Center and will be named Einstein's associate dean for Graduate Medical Education for  Montefiore. In her new position, Dr. Skae will oversee Montefiore's House Staff Office and oversee interactions with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the professional organization responsible for accrediting roughly 9,200 residency education programs in the United States. Montefiore's residency program is one of the largest in the country, training more than 1,250 residents across 81 accredited clinical programs sponsored by Einstein. Dr. Skae will interact with Dr. Brian Cohen who will continue as Einstein's associate dean for Graduate Medical Education for Jacobi Medical Center.

Dr. Skae's experience in medical education leadership at Montefiore spans more than a decade. She has served as assistant chief of service, residency training director and vice chair for education in the Department of Pediatrics for Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and Einstein. During her tenure, more than a dozen residency and fellowship programs in CHAM received outstanding reviews and commendations from the national review committees.

Dr. Skae is an attending physician in the Department of Pediatrics at CHAM and associate professor of clinical pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics at Einstein. Her clinical interests include pediatric pain management, patient and family satisfaction, patient safety and quality improvement.

Dr. Skae received her M.D. degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine and completed her internship and residency at Einstein/Montefiore, where she also served as chief resident before being recruited to join the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at CHAM. She is the recipient of an honorary doctorate from St. Thomas Aquinas College and has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching. She also has published articles in peer-reviewed journals including Medical Education and authored chapters and review articles in Contemporary Pediatrics and other publications.
