Einstein's Global Health Center and Global Health Club recently hosted their annual Global Health Week, during which educational and motivational events are held to provide students with exposure to physicians who are integrating global health work into their careers, and to inform them about global health activities in which they can take part.
This year's festivities kicked off with a panel presentation in which second-year students described their projects abroad that were supported by the Global Health Fellowship Program, and they gave advice to first-year students interested in pursuing global health fellowships. It also included a reception held in the Forchheimer hallway known as Einstein's "Main Street," featuring a photography exhibit illustrating students' global health experiences.
Assembled by second-year student, Jesse Berman, in conjunction with Jill Raufman, program director of Einstein's Global Health Center, the exhibit featured stunning photos taken by Einstein students during their travels in India, Africa, and South and Central America.
The special week also featured a Global Health Trivia Night, which drew an enthusiastic group of medical students who were quizzed on trivia pertaining to global health, New York and Einstein.
The week's events continued with a presentation by Dr. Richard Murphy, assistant professor of medicine, who shared his experiences working abroad with Doctors without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization that provides independent, impartial assistance in more than 60 countries, to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect or catastrophe.
Global Health Week concluded with a "Meet and Greet" attended by approximately 80 students and 40 faculty members, who discussed potential involvement in future global health initiatives. Each faculty member offered a brief description of their respective global health involvement, and students were able to go from table to table to learn about the different options available to them regarding their own potential participation.
