On August 1, 2013, participants in the Einstein-Montefiore Summer High School Research Program gathered in the Block Building's Lubin Dining Hall for the end-of-program poster session, where they presented findings from their summer research projects.
Led by program directors, Dr. Victoria Freedman, associate dean for graduate programs in biomedical sciences, and Dr. Amy Fox, associate professor of pathology and of pediatrics, the program introduces high school students, ages 16 and older, to the excitement of scientific research with a goal of encouraging the students to consider careers in science. Participants are selected from a pool of applicants based on academic excellence, and then work under the guidance of a faculty member who serves as their mentor during a five-week summer research experience.
At this year's poster session, Summer High School Research Program participants shared their results alongside college students who took part in Einstein's Summer Undergraduate Research Program. Following the poster session, the event moved to the Einstein Faculty Club, where guests — including summer program participant's family members, mentors and lab members — were treated to a special dinner reception. The Einstein-Montefiore Summer High School Research Program is sponsored by Einstein's Graduate Division of Biomedical Sciences, Montefiore Medical Center, Siemens Corporation, Roche Molecular Diagnostics and Mr. and Mrs. David Werber.
