Dr. Nichola Davis was recently presented the 2012 National Medical Association (NMA) Council on the Concerns of Women Physicians Award. The annual award honors female physicians who strive to eliminate healthcare disparities, to provide people of color with quality healthcare and to address women's health and professional issues through research, community service, and activism.
Dr. Davis’ research and clinical work focuses on inner-city communities, in particular the high rates of obesity and diabetes within low-income African-American and Latino communities and the effect of obesity-related national policies on these communities. She also researches the relationship between dietary patterns and glycemic control in type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Davis received her honor during the Muriel Petioni Awards Luncheon, at the 2012 NMA national convention, held in New Orleans. In addition to this award, she has been recognized for her community service through both a Congressional Achievement Award and a Community Service Award for her work within the Bronx community, and she has been presented a "Rock Star of Science Award" by the American Heart Association.
Dr. Davis is associate professor of clinical medicine and of clinical epidemiology & population health at Einstein. She also is an attending physician in the North Bronx Healthcare Network, where she is a co-director for the Adult Weight Management Clinic.
