Based partly on optimism and partly on weighing the odds -- a forecast of near-certainty for rain on the proposed rain date -- the BBQ grills for the 2012 Employee Appreciation Day were lit on Tuesday, June 5. In spite of the prospect of rain, approximately 1,500 members of the Einstein community turned out to enjoy hot dogs, burgers and veggie burgers with all the fixings, music provided by master DJ John Schmidt (who also is a member of the mail room staff), and the fun games and raffles organized by human resources staff.
Although the forecast rain eventually did fall, it did not dampen anyone’s spirits or attendance. "Many employees, seeing the threatening skies, came early," noted Michael Sica, director of employee relations & talent development for Yeshiva University. "So, to accommodate them, we opened the serving lines and made it self-serve so that everyone could move through more quickly."
Once again, raffle items were provided by human resources and through generous donations by members of the dean’s office and other administrative offices throughout the College of Medicine. Winners took home prizes that included Einstein hoodies, tote bags, and gift cards to local restaurants, Starbucks and movie theaters. In addition, everyone who attended received an Einstein-branded squeeze ball or Frisbee-like foldable flier.
