On May 3, 2012, Dr. Stephen G. Baum traveled to New Rochelle with first-year medical students Hanna Valdes and Jonathan Torres, who each received a $1,500 scholarship from The Medical Letter, a non-profit organization whose publications provide physicians and other healthcare providers with unbiased, critical evaluations of prescription drugs. The scholarships were provided through the Arthur Kallet/Harold Aaron fund, administered by The Medical Letter staff.
Established in 1973, in memory of Mr. Kallet, the aim of the fund is to provide scholarship assistance for a deserving first-year medical student. The name of the fund was changed in 1988 to also honor Dr. Aaron. Both men founded The Medical Letter.
With their selection to receive the scholarships from The Medical Letter, Ms. Valdes and Mr. Torres were recognized for their academic excellence.
