Dr. Shamoon represents Einstein and Montefiore Medical Center in the NIH’s Clinical and Translational Science Award Consortium, an elite group of 60 medical research institutions working to improve health outcomes by facilitating the translation of scientific discoveries into medical practice. Dr. Shamoon’s research focus is diabetes, and he has directed two landmark NIH studies, the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial and the Diabetes Prevention Program.

Dr. Shamoon is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American  Physicians, and the New York Academy of Medicine. He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Diabetes and its Complications . Dr. Shamoon serves on several national committees, including the American Diabetes Association Scientific and Medical Advisory Group and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International Medical Science Review Committee.
