Dr. Libutti is an expert in surgical oncology and endocrine surgery and a pioneer in tumor targeted gene therapy. His laboratory studies tumors – particularly those of the pancreas, thyroid and adrenal glands – that trigger the formation of new blood vessels that allow tumors to grow and spread. A holder of five U.S. patents, he is developing novel cancer therapies by studying the complex interactions that occur within the tumor microenvironment.
Dr. Libutti has published more than 200 peer-reviewed journal articles and 16 book chapters and has given numerous presentations and lectures. He has received the NIH Director’s Award and the National Cancer Institute’s Director’s Gold Star and Intramural Innovation awards.
Dr. Libutti has appeared on Castle Connolly’s list of “Top Doctors in America” and on New York Magazine’s list of “Top Doctors in New York.” In 2009, he was named the Marvin L. Gliedman, M.D., Distinguished Surgeon at Montefiore Medical Center.
