Professional Interests

I am interested in investigating the molecular mechanisms controlling differentiation and tumorigenisis in order to elucidate ways in which a cell maintains a healthy state and prevents cancer.  I am analyzing gene expression patterns in aberrant crypt foci, putative precursors of colorectal cancer and comparing thesse profiles to those of matched normal and tumor tissue in order to discover molecular changes that occur during the initial stages of neoplasia induction.  In addition, I am attempting to identify microRNA's that may be involved in colon cell differentiation and/or tumorigenisis.  Eventually these studies will provide insight into how behaviors including diet can affect disease prevention at the cellular and molecular levels.
