Professional Interests

Dr. Melissa Iammatteo is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Allergy and Immunology and an attending physician at Montefiore Medical Center.  She serves as the Director of the outpatient Chemotherapy and Biologic Agent Desensitization Program, which she developed in collaboration with the Department of Oncology.  Dr. Iammatteo received her undergraduate degree in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University, where she graduated second in her class.  She subsequently received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she honored all of her clinical rotations and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Iammatteo completed her Internal Medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she also served as a Clinical Fellow in Medicine at Harvard Medical School.  She subsequently completed her Allergy and Immunology fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center.  Her research is focused on developing safe protocols for the evaluation of adverse drug reactions. She has had two first-authored publications selected as one of the year's nine best articles published in the field of Allergy and Immunology at the  American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology's Annual Scientific Meeting; "Safety and Outcomes of Test Doses at a Single Institution: A 5-Year Retrospective Review" was selected at the 2015 meeting and "Identifying Allergic Drug Reactions Through Placebo-Controlled Graded Challenges" was selected at the 2017 meeting.  Both of these articles were featured as "Practice Changers" in Practice Matters, which is published by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.  Dr. Iammatteo treats both children and adults for a multitude of allergic disorders, including asthma, allergic rhinitis, hives, eczema, contact dermatitis, and environmental, drug, and food allergies.
