Professional Interests

Laura Gardner, MD is a psychiatrist with an interest in medical student and resident education, patient advocacy, schizophrenia, severe mood disorders, catatonia, and electroconvulsive therapy. She is an attending inpatient psychiatrist with the Montefiore Psychiatry Residency Program at Montefiore Medical Center, where she teaches and supervises both medical students and PGY1 psychiatry residents and also provides inpatient electroconvulsive therapy. She completed a visiting fellowship in electroconvulsive therapy at Columbia University Medical Center.

Dr. Gardner completed psychiatry residency at Montefiore Medical Center after graduating from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in biochemistry and a B.A. with concentration in physics. Dr. Gardner joined Albert Einstein College of Medicine faculty directly after completing residency at Montefiore Medical Center, which included a chief resident year on the inpatient psychiatric unit.

Dr. Gardner also has interests in yoga, mindfulness and meditation, and is currently taking Danish language classes with the goal of attaining both written and spoken fluency.
