Faculty Profile

Dr. Wei Chen, M.D.

Wei Chen, M.D.

Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine (Nephrology)

Areas of Research: Vascular calcification in chronic kidney disease; vascular smooth muscle cell function; disorders of mineral metabolism in chronic kidney disease; metabolism of calcium, phosphate and magnesium; biomarker development

Professional Interests

Dr. Wei Chen completed the internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center.  During the fellowship, she earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research with Distinction through Einstein’s Clinical Research Training Program.

Dr. Chen's research focuses on disorders of mineral metabolism in patients with chronic kidney disease, especially vascular calcification. Using the bench to bedside translational approach, she studies pathophysiology and develops biomarkers of vascular calcification in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Dr. Chen was awarded Career Development Award from the University of Rochester Clinical and Translational Science Institute (2015-2017) and research grant from Renal Research Institute (2015-2017), Carl Gottschalk Research Scholar Grant from the American Society of Nephrology (2017-2019) and K23 Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health (2018-2022).
