2012 Incoming PhD Class  

Below is a description of the incoming graduate students for the 2012 PhD class. 
 

 
 

Prior Research Experience

  • 100% have had a sustained research experience in a scientific laboratory
  • 56% have published a scientific paper in a peer reviewed journal
  • 40% have presented their work at a scientific meeting
  • 45% have also spent a summer in a research program
 
 

Education

  • 33 different colleges are represented by the incoming PhD Class. Students come from throughout the United States having attended large research universities, and small liberal arts colleges
  • Undergraduate majors: 
    Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biological Sciences, Chemical Biology, Chemistry, Medical Microbiology and Immunity, Medicine, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Molecular Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Public Health
  • 89% have a Bachelor of Science degree; 11% have a Bachelor of Arts degree
  • 37% have a Master’s degree; 1 student has a medical degree

 

 
 

Demographics

  • Demographics- 51% Female, 49% Male

  • Underrepresented minorities - 11% of individuals have self-identified as belonging to groups traditionally underrepresented

  • International students - students come to Einstein from countries around the world. This year's class includes students from UK, Spain, Chile, China, Mexico, Mongolia, Netherlands and Lebanon. Some of these students have prestigious fellowships such as a Fulbright award
