  1. Assess yourself – your skills, values, interests, and more
    • Formal assessments The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) assessment is the best known and most widely used personality tool available today. Developed more than 50 years ago, the MBTI assists users in understanding individual differences and uncovering new ways to work and interact with others.
    • If you are interested in taking the MBTI assessment register for the next available free MBTI workshop offered by Yeshiva University or perform a self-assessment using a free Jung-Typology online test.
  2. Explore Career Options 
    • What are the career options for have a PhD (link to Careers for PhDs) ? Research relevant industries, companies, positions, and various career paths by reading books/newspapers, talking to professional of that field and use LinkedIn.
    • Schedule informational interviews to learn more about diverse career paths.
    • Don't forget to send Thank You notes after an informational interview.
  3. Make a Decision 
    Discuss your options with your significant other/family and make a decision about which career/occupation you will pursue. (Think about criteria by which you evaluate your experiences and options. Is it a long-term or short term career goal?)
  4. Take Actions 
    • What are the required qualifications?
    • Which qualifications do you have?
    • What do you still have to work on?
    • You might want to consider to volunteer/internships in your desired field for building networks and accumulating work experience.
  5. Reflect in the Process 
    • Is the career choice satisfying?
    • Is the career providing you what you expected?
    • Is it a good decision?
