Financial Aid
Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and the Office of Student Finance assist students in putting together a funding package through a variety of resources--grants or scholarships, loans and work study, which can help cover the cost of your education. Students seeking financial assistance from Ferkauf who are U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens are required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is also the application used to determine the student’s eligibility for the Federal Direct Stafford Loans and other federal programs.
The Yeshiva University school code is 002903; campus code: 00.
International students (which include: Students who are not citizens, nationals, permanent residents, or eligible non-citizens of the United States*) must fill out our International student aid form, which should be submitted to the Ferkauf Dean's Office.
Federal Direct Stafford Loan Program
In order to qualify for a Federal Stafford Loan, the student must complete the FAFSA. Masters student will be eligible for $20,500/year and Doctoral Students are eligible for $33,000. To apply for the loan, the student must complete the Stafford Loan Request Form. First time borrowers must also complete Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note at www.studentloans.gov.
If a student requires more loans, after having applied for the Stafford loan, they can apply for a Grad PLUS loan. This loan is credit based, and the student must give the government permission to run a credit check. In order to apply for this loan, the student must complete the Grad PLUS loan request form.
Scholarships, Fellowships, Assistantships and Grants
No additional applications are required for these, and accepted students are notified at the time of acceptance to Ferkauf. The Program Directors and the Ferkauf Dean's Office determines scholarships based on the amount of funds available each year and the number of requests received.
At the end of the first year, students can re-apply for very limited scholarship funds for their second year (e.g., $2,000 per year) following the required steps below.
Outside Scholarships and Financial Assistance
We've also compiled a list of outside scholarships and other financial assistance (PDF) that all students should review.
Additional funding sources are often available through programs funded by outside groups such as community centers, labor unions, women's organizations and fraternal and civic organizations. Students are encouraged to research possible external sources of funding for their education.
Renewing Your Financial Aid Package
Students must reapply for financial assistance each year. Since personal finances are subject to change, the Office of Student Finance continually works with students to assure the continuity of the student's education.
Ferkauf Student Scholarship Procedures
- Complete the FAFSA (processed FAFSA information is received by the Office of Student Finance).
- Complete the Ferkauf survey.
- The survey can be completed online and printed out. It must then be emailed to korik@yu.edu. If a student is unable to access the application they can still use a paper survey and submit the survey to Enna Korik in Rousso 128E (Psychology Office).
- Students can submit surveys beginning May 1st and must be received no later than May 17th.
- Faculty and the Academic Standards Committee review FAFSA information and the needs of students and rank the order their recommendations based on need, academic standing and special circumstances
- The Office of the Dean awards funds based on availability to recommended students. (Note: scholarship funds are available at the beginning of each academic year and are awarded at that time for the entire year; funds may become available throughout the year and are distributed as received.)
