Study Shows How Aging Impairs Immune Response

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

A study by Laura Santambrogio, MD, PhD, associate professor of pathology and of microbiology and immunology at Einstein, on how aging impairs the immune response was recently published in the journal Cell Reports. She was among the Einstein researchers to uncover one of the mechanisms by which aging may compromise the ability of the immune system to fight infections and respond to vaccines. The study, conducted in aging mice, shows that administering antioxidants may help reverse this loss of immune function. The study was featured on the Einstein web site and received media coverage.
