Department of Medicine Quality Improvement

Image: the IOM's "Crossing the Quality Chasm" has provided a set of actionable domains to anchor healthcare quality efforts.
In 2001, the Institute of Medicine published "Crossing the Quality Chasm," a report outlining the most salient quality deficiencies in the nation’s current healthcare system and the mechanisms that have lead to this chasm. "Crossing the Quality Chasm" also defined the six tenets of quality, providing a set of actionable domains to anchor quality efforts.

The Department of Medicine provides care relevant to most of these performance measures, and collaborates actively with the entire Montefiore delivery system to improve care in all of these areas. Medicine's quality improvement initiatives, detailed below, are organized using the six principles.
