Critical Care Medicine (CCM) at Montefiore began as a service line under the leadership of Dr. Vladimir Kvetan. Through the years, CCM as a specialty has evolved nationally to have its own fellowship program and its own divisions in many institutions (at the University of Pittsburgh, it is even a department).
With the coming of Simon Spivack as our new Pulmonary Chief, we have decided to set up Critical Care Medicine as a formal division of the Department of Medicine.
Dr. Kvetan, the Director, has trained numerous intensivists throughout the northeast and the nation. He is currrently directing a New York-wide consortium of intensivists and CCM divisions in a large data pooling and data mining research project. Dr. Kvetan runs an extremely competitive fellowship training program. His faculty members staff all ICUs at Montefiore and Weiler (with the exception of the CCUs), and have received national acclaim and awards for the quality of care rendered. Increasingly, the group is engaged in research activities and scholarly activity.
It is time to bring CCM to the table as an equal partner. Please welcome Critical Care Medicine as a Division, and Dr. Kvetan as its founding Division Chief.
