The Einstein/Montefiore Internal Medicine Residency Program has undergone leadership changes in the Firm 1 Medical Service.
John Loehner, MD Effective August 1, Dr. John Loehner, formerly the Firm 1 Assistant Firm Leader, has been promoted to work full time as Assistant Senior Medical Director in the Office of the Medical Director of Montefiore Medical Center, a role in which he represents the systems-wide interests of the residency program.
"John's firm leadership will be missed greatly. We have recognized him as an exemplary role model in his teaching, clinical acumen, and breadth and depth of clinical knowledge, and also in his personal qualities," said Dr. Sheira Schlair, MD, MS, Director of the Firm 1 Medical Service. "John will stay very active in our teaching program and will continue to teach in our conferences and attend on service at Moses."
Matthew Shaines, MD Dr. Matthew Shaines, a fellow graduate of the Internal Medicine Residency Program (Firm 3), will assume the role of Firm 1 Assistant Firm Leader. Over the last few years, Dr. Shaines had assumed the role of Assistant Director of the Moses Hospitalist Service, working closely with Dr. Loehner in organizing and developing the hospitalist program on the west campus. Dr. Shaines currently directs the Medicine Consult Service, on which the house staff rotate during the PGY-3 year.
"We appreciate Matt's sense of humor and thoughtful demeanor, grounded in a deep understanding of pathophysiology of disease and a great love for clinical teaching, and we are excited to welcome him to the team," said Dr. Schlair.
