New Moses Campus Pulmonary Function Lab Opens

Thomas Knight Aldrich, MD, PFT Lab Director
May 16, 2011 - The Einstein/Montefiore Department of Medicine is pleased to announce New York State approval of its newly expanded Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) Laboratory. This augmented facility, located at Montefiore Medical Center (MAP 2), has new, state-of-the-art PFT equipment that can measure not only the traditional battery of lung function tests, including pre- and post-bronchodilator spirometry, lung volumes, and DLCO, but also provides for methacholine challenge tests (measuring bronchial hyper-reactivity of asthma) and cold air challenges (measuring bronchial hyper-reactivity).
Once fully operational (later this month), the PFT Lab doubles the capacity for PFT testing on the Moses campus, dramatically improving access to this important pulmonary service.
Cardio-pulmonary exercise testing for refractory dyspnea evaluation can be developed by special arrangement with Dr. Tom Aldrich, Director of the PFT Lab. Staffed by a respiratory therapist and other staff, the PFT LAB joins its similarly equipped sister lab on the Weiler campus to offer patients equivalent choice of advanced PFT labs on either campus, and expands the ability to provide advanced testing to patients at Montefiore Medical Center.
