Kamholz to Become Chair of Medicine at Jacobi/North Central Bronx
Following a national search, Stephan Kamholz, MD, MAPC, has accepted the position as Chair of Medicine at Jacobi Medical Center/North Central Bronx Hospital, effective May 2010.

Dr. Kamholz earned his BA from New York University in 1968 and the MD degree from New York Medical College in 1972. He completed residency training at Montefiore Medical Center in internal medicine (1972-75), and in pulmonary diseases (1975-77). From 1977 to 1986, he was on the faculty at Einstein, where he was involved with the Experimental Lung Transplantation Program Project.
Dr. Kamholz has authored or co-authored more than 160 contributions to medical literature, and has served as visiting professor and lecturer at numerous academic medical centers.
Originally serving as Chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, in 1993 Dr. Kamholz became Chair of the Department of Medicine at SUNY and at Kings County Hospital Center. He rebuilt a strong clinical pulmonary division into one with a well-recognized track record of clinical investigation, particularly in the area of pulmonary disease associated with human immunodeficiency virus infection. As Department Chair at Downstate, he was a highly involved leader and a "front line" educator of housestaff and students. He was selected as "Medical Housestaff Teacher of the Year" in 1992. In 1995-96 and again in 1998-99, he was named "Outstanding Educator of the Year" of the Clinical Faculty at SUNY Brooklyn.
From 2001 to present, Dr. Kamholz has been Chair of Medicine at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he has worked to develop integrated administrative, educational, and research activities between the two Long Island tertiary campuses of the Health System.
Dr. Kamholz will hold the positions of Vice-Chair of the Einstein Department of Medicine, and Assistant Dean at Einstein.
