Herbert Scheinberg, Emeritus Professor of Medicine

Herbert Scheinberg, Professor of Medicine at Einstein's founding in 1955 and leader of the Division of Genetic Medicine from 1973 to 1992 died of pneumonia April 4, 2009 at age 89.
Dr. Scheinberg, a specialist in rare hereditary diseases, helped develop a blood test to diagnose Wilson disease, a potentially fatal copper buildup in the body. A modified version of Scheinberg's test is still used.
