Montefiore Opens New Renal Dialysis Vascular Access Center
In July 2008, a new renal dialysis vascular access center owned by Montefiore Medical Center was opened next to the GI endoscopy center on Broadway and 230th Street.
This center is managed by RMS Lifeline, a subsidiary of Davita, the west campus dialysis vendor. The center is staffed by two physician assistants (including Peter Durkin, the center manager), two scrub technicians, and a receptionist/coordinator. The goal is to identify the best site for a new dialysis access and to work closely with the surgeons to get it done. The departmental vascular access person is Dr. Robert Feingold (Nephrology). Dr. Feingold spent an extensive training period at an RMS-managed center, where he learned to do catheter-exchanges, catheter insertions, fistula and graft angioplasties, and graft declots.
