Professional Interests

Dr. Gabriele de Vos is an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Allergy and Immunology) and an attending physician for pediatric and adult allergy and immunology at Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital. Her research focuses on the pathogenesis of allergic diseases and the induction of immune tolerance through allergen vaccination (immunotherapy). She received the Career Development Award from the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research of Einstein and was awarded the 2008 Young Investigator Award from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.

Dr. de Vos’ mentors are David Rosenstreich, M.D. and Andrew Wiznia, M.D. at Einstein and Jacobi Medical Center. Her research team collaborates further with Douglas Nixon, MD (UCSF), director of one of the leading laboratories for the in-depth study of regulatory T-cells.

Dr. de Vos completed her doctoral thesis in basic science at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich. During her allergy and immunology fellowship at Einstein/Montefiore, she continued basic science work exploring the effect of environmental pollutants (i.e., mercury) on inducing allergic immune responses in vitro. Dr. de Vos was partially sponsored by an Empire Clinical Investigator Program of the New York State Department of Health, and completed the Clinical Research Training Program (CRTP) at Einstein in 2009, where she initiated a clinical trial on the efficacy of allergen immunotherapy in young allergic children to prevent long-term asthma morbidity. This study explores immune regulatory mechanisms involved in asthma pathogenesis in early childhood.
