Professional Interests

Dr. Henny Billett has been Chief of the Division of Hematology since 2012 and Professor of Clinical Medicine and Pathology since 2002.

Dr. Billett clinical research interests are in risk factors for thrombosis and microvascular disease, with emphasis on epidemiological aspects and outcomes research. Her investigations focus on the effect of race and ethnicity on thrombosis in general and, in particular, the thrombotic and microvascular complications of sickle cell disease. Dr. Billett's active clinical research includes IRB-approved clinical trials and principal investigatorships on multiple funded studies over a number of years. She has served on NIH study sections, lectured widely on thrombocytopathies, prothrombotic states, sickle cell disease, transfusion therapy, and received teaching and mentoring awards.

Dr. Billett has served as President of the Society for the Study of Blood and Chief of the Division of Laboratory Hematology, Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, maintains both teaching and faculty practice clinics, and has been regularly cited in Top Doctors, Best Doctors and Super Doctors.

Dr. Billett received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania cum laude; her MD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine; and her MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London. She was a Senior House Officer at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London, and completed her training at Montefiore.
