Professional Interests

Debra Greenberg, MSW, PhD completed her MSW at the Hunter College School of Social Work and her PhD at the Graduate School of Social Service at Fordham University. Her dissertation was on the international migration experience of older adults and was called “Old Trees, New Roots, the Resettlement Experience of Older Jews from the Former Soviet Union.” She joined the faculty of the Geriatrics Division in 1986. Dr. Greenberg is a clinician educator. She established an Elder Mistreatment Consultation Service at Montefiore and is a consultant with Geriatric Psychiatry to SelfHelp staff in the treatment of Holocaust survivors and their families through the support of the UJA Caring Commission. She is currently the project manager in coordinating an Advanced Care Planning Consultation Service for fellows, residents, nurses and social workers at the Medical Center with the generous support of the New York Foundation for the Elderly.  Dr. Greenberg assesses and treats older adults and their families both in the ambulatory and home visiting programs. She teaches trainees who rotate with the Geriatrics Division.
