Blouet Receives Helmholtz Young Investigator Award

Clemence Blouet, PhD

July 8, 2013 - BRONX, NY - Dr. Clemence Blouet (Endocrinology-Diabetes), has been nominated for the Helmholtz Young Investigator Diabetes (HeIDi) Award.

Dr. Blouet is a graduate of AgroParisTech, France’s top School of Engineering in Biological Sciences, where she completed a MS and PhD in Nutrition Physiology. While pursuing her graduate work she developed a specific interest in the study of metabolic diseases with emphasis on the role of dietary protein in the prevention of metabolic dysfunctions. She then joined Dr. Gary Schwartz’s laboratory at Einstein as a postdoctoral fellow, where she developed her own research theme on the consequences of central amino acid detection on the regulation of energy homeostasis. Dr. Blouet is now developing an independent research program focused on the forebrain-hindbrain nutrient-sensing circuits in the regulation of energy homeostasis.

Research conducted by Dr. Blouet and Dr. Schwartz revealed a molecule in the brain that may contribute to obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Blouet is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the postdoctoral award from the French Society for the Study of Nutrition, two Keystone Symposia Scholarships, the Belfer Prize for Outstanding Postdoctoral Research, the Young Investigator Award from the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior, the American Heart Association Postdoctoral Award, and Travel Fellow of the Winter Conference on Brain Research. As the recipient of the HeIDi Award, she will give a short presentation of her work at the 1st Annual Helmholtz-Nature Medicine Diabetes conference, September 22-24, in Munich, Germany.
