Dr. Jaehwan Kim Awarded 2018 National Psoriasis Foundation Discovery Grant   

TcellSecond-year resident Jaehwan Kim, MD, PhD, has been awarded a $75,000 National Psoriasis Foundation Discovery Grant. The mission of the National Psoriasis Foundation Research Program is to find a cure for psoriatic disease and to improve the lives of those affected. Grant applications undergo rigorous scientific peer-review by a panel of experts and are selected for their potential to yield information that will help treat psoriatic disease and answer basic questions about underlying disease mechanisms. Dr. Kim’s research explores type 1 regulatory T cells as novel targets for the recovery of immune tolerance in patients with psoriasis


Originally from South Korea, Jaehwan earned his MD and PhD from Korea University. As a board certified dermatologist in Korea, he went on to serve as clinical instructor at Korea University Hospital. Dr. Kim then completed a research fellowship at St George Hospital, Australia then brought his talents stateside to Rockefeller University, completing the Clinical Scholars Program and earning his MS in Clinical and Translational Research.

Dr. Kim is currently participating in the Montefiore Einstein Dermatology Residency Program, and also has a joint appointment as a visiting associate attending physician at Rockefeller University.



 

 

Dr. Emily Hejazi Wins 2018 Rising Derm Stars Award 

 HejaziSecond-year resident Emily Hejazi, MD, MS was one of 10 dermatology residents nationwide chosen for the 2018 Rising Derm Stars Award. This prestigious award recognizes residents who have conducted outstanding research and is supported by the National Society for Cutaneous Medicine. Award recipients were supported in attending the Winter Clinical Dermatology Conference in Maui, Hawaii, in January 2018, and invited to deliver research presentations during a special session.

Originally from Doylestown, PA Dr. Hejazi completed her undergraduate education at the University of Richmond, medical school and internship at Drexel University College of Medicine/Hahnemann University Hospital, and a research fellowship at University of Pennsylvania under Dr. Victoria Werth. Dr. Hejazi conducted a phase 2 clinical trial of a cannabinoid receptor type 2 agonist in refractory skin-predominant dermatomyositis. She also participated in clinical trials for cutaneous lupus and pemphigus vulgaris.

Dr. Hejazi is currently participating in the Montefiore Einstein Dermatology Residency Program, where she is interested in complex medical dermatology.
