The Division of Dermatology celebrated another successful match day this year, securing the highest level candidates from near and far.

Einstein/Montefiore Researchers presented findings from studies exploring the treatment and diagnosis of various dermatologic conditions, including skin cancer, psoriasis and wound healing at the 72nd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology March 21-25, 2014 in Denver, CO.

Dr. Adam Friedman recently received the prestigious Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (JDD) Leaders of Distinction Award at the Orlando Dermatology Aesthetic and Clinical (ODAC) Conference in Orlando, FL.

Second-year resident Dr. Kate V. Viola was among the winners of the 2013 Annual Stritzler Resident Competition of the Dermatologic Society of Greater New York.


Dr. David Ciocon, dermatologist and Director of Dermatologic Surgery, Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology at Einstein/Montefiore, Bronx, NYCiocon Leads First-Year Dermatology Workshop
Dr. David Ciocon recently led an event for first-year medical students teaching basic dermatologic surgical skills in conjunction with the Department of Anatomy.

Adler Receives American Skin Association Grant
Brandon Adler, a medical student at and research fellow under Dr. Adam Friedman, received a research grant from the American Skin Association to investigate a new nanotechnology for the treatment of melanoma.


Strong 2013 Fellowship Match for Dermatology
Results of the 2013 Fellowship Match showed that the Einstein/Motnefiore Division of Dermatology had an outstanding post residency fellowship match.

Dr. Steven Cohen discussed emerging data on biologics, their use to manage psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, strategies for long-term safe and effective use, and therapeutics in the pipeline. (dermtube.com)



Drs. Steven Cohen and Adam Friedman were interviewed for the American Academy of Dermatology's Dialogues in Dermatology. Dr. Cohen reviewed his research and clinical expertise in the treatment of acne, and Dr Friedman reviewed the field of nanodermatology, his research using nitric oxide nanoparticles, and the future of topical drug delivery. Dr. David Ciocon joins the Division of Dermatology as Director of Dermatologic Surgery, Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology and Director of Clinical Operations of the Division of Dermatology.


Wu Awarded Research Prize
Division of Dermatology resident Dr. Julia Wu was among five members of the Department of Medicine who were awarded research prizes at the 18th annual Montefiore Young Investigators Symposium.


Dermatology Welcomes Dr. Caroline Halverstam
Dr. Halverstam joins the Division with advanced training in general dermatological procedures as well as in more complex procedures including the treatment of psoriasis with phototherapy, topical therapy and biologic therapy.

Despite increasing rates of fatal melanoma diagnoses among Hispanics, this population is still less likely to practice sun-protective behavior, according a study by Drs. Kate Viola and Karthik Krishnamurthy.

5 years and Counting: Einstein Dermatology Residents Awarded at New York Academy of Medicine Research Competition
First-year resident Dr. Aron Gwertzman received second place in the annual New York Academy of Medicine Resident Research Competition, marking the fifth year the Einstein-Montefiore Division of Dermatology has received recognition for excellence in both basic and clinical research at this competition.

Black Wins Travel Grant
First-year resident Dr. Josh Black received an International Society Meeting Travel Grant from the American Academy of Dermatology to attend the 2011 Irish Association of Dermatologists Annual Meeting in Belfast, May 13-14, 2011.

Montefiore Establishes Multidisciplinary Melanoma Treatment Team
The Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care (MECCC) has established a new multidisciplinary team specializing in the treatment of skin malignancies including melanoma, the most aggressive and deadly form of skin cancer.

Blecher Awarded Travel Fellowship
Fourth-year medical student Karin Blecher was awarded received the distinguished Albert Kligman M. Kligman Travel Fellowship Award to deliver a presentation at the annual Society for Investigative Dermatology.
