Research Career Development Support - Track 2

Research Career Development Support (Track 2) is open to junior investigators who:

  • Are conducting clinical or translational research;
  • Have a faculty appointment in a clinical department; and for whom
  • The College is requested to provide supplemental funding or other support.

Eligible applicants are encouraged to apply for an extramural or internal (KL2) Career Development Award. To complete your award application, your NIH eRA Commons Account is required. If you do not already have one, please click here to learn how to obtain your NIH eRA Commons Account.

In order to be considered for a Track 2 award, you must:

  • Have a doctoral degree
  • Focus the majority (minimum of 50 percent) of full-time professional effort to conducting research activities associated with the program
  • Be a full time employee at Einstein or Montefiore, with a faculty appointment at the level of Instructor or Assistant Professor as of the initiation of the support.
  • Have a research project that fits within the rubric of clinical or translational research, as defined at https://ncats.nih.gov/files/translation-factsheet.pdf

Your application must consist of:

  • Abstracts of existing supporting grants
    • These Abstracts should be identified as such; other grants relevant to the research may also be included.
  • Letter of support from your mentor/sponsor
    • The Mentor/Sponsor’s statement, detailing the commitment to the investigator, should include time commitment and how the Sponsor plans to enhance your career success.
  • Chair's letter of support
    • The Department Chair’s letter should specifically indicate the faculty level (typically Assistant Professor) at which you are or will be appointed.
    • It should specify that you will be able to devote a minimum of 50% effort to research and research training activities, describe what non-research (i.e., teaching, clinical, or administrative) responsibilities you will have, and what percent effort (up to 50%) each of these non-research activities will require.
    • In addition, the letter should include a departmental "vision" for your research career, and how it fits with the department’s mission, along with any resources (laboratory and office space, equipment, funding) provided to you by the department.
  • Career development plan, including timeline
    • The career development plan should specify the activities in which you will be engaged that will foster your research career development, including course work; specialized scientific training; seminars and conferences; interactions with the sponsor and other colleagues; and a plan for research activities, presentations, publications, and grant submissions. A timeline should be attached with specific proposed milestones.
  • Biosketches
    • The candidate's and mentor's biosketches should be submitted in NIH format including your "research support". See sample of NIH format here
