The largest foundation in the Muslim World with extensive projects in health, education, rural development, and NGO-enhancement.

American Association of University Women-International Fellowships
AAUW Educational Foundation offers International Fellowships for full-time study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The fellowships support both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions inside or outside the United States.

Bloomberg Global Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use
As part of the Initiative, a competitively awarded grants program will support projects to develop and deliver high impact tobacco control interventions in low- and- middle-income countries.
 

Boehringer Ingelheim
Foundation for Basic Research in Biomedicine Travel Allowances: to enable the recipients to visit laboratories further afield in order to study clearly defined techniques useful for their ongoing research and the work of their research group at home. Applications are continuous. Also offers PhD and MD scholarships.

One of largest NGOs involved in international development and relief.

CDC 

Commonwealth Fund
The International Program in Health Care Policy and Practice promotes cross-national research, collaborations and exchanges. Activities include fellowships, meetings of researchers and policymakers, and an annual GH policy survey.

Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES)
CIES administers Fulbright grants. Fulbright grants are made to U.S. citizens and nationals of other countries for a variety of educational activities, primarily university lecturing, advanced research, graduate study and teaching in elementary and secondary schools.
 

Drum Beat, The Communication Initiative
Where communication and media are central to social and economic development. The organization publishes papers, job vacancies, funding announcements and more.

Fogarty International Center for Advanced Study in the Health Sciences
Various research and training grant opportunities are available.

Gates (Bill and Melinda) Foundation
The largest U.S. foundation active in Global Health.

Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize
The Prize aims to honor individuals with outstanding achievements in the fields of medical research and medical services to combat infections and other diseases in Africa.

Institute of International Education (IIE) - Scholar Rescue Fund
The Scholar Rescue Fund is intended to support academics, scholars, and intellectuals from any country and any discipline in temporary visits to institutions in any safe country, in any part of the world.

International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
IDRC funds research activities that are designed to directly benefit developing countries and their citizens. Here you will find information about how to apply for funding and how to manage the funds you receive.

International Society for Infectious Diseases
The mission of the International Society for Infectious Diseases is to enhance research, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases, particularly in low resource countries.

Izumi Foundation
The primary goal of the Izumi Foundation is to support efforts that will reduce the burden of infectious diseases in developing and low-income countries.

MacArthur (The John D. and Catherine T.) Foundation
Addresses both national and international health, development, and population issues, provides links to organizations supported by the Foundation and to philanthropic resources.

National Academy of Sciences
Various research awards are available.

National Science Foundation
The National Science Foundation funds research and education in most fields of science and engineering. It does this through grants, and cooperative agreements to colleges, universities, K-12 school systems, businesses, and other research organizations throughout the United States.
 

PAHO/WHO Fellowships
Fellowships provide opportunities for advanced study in public health fields that are not customarily available in the fellow’s home country.
 

Pfizer
Supports medical innovation in a wide range of disciplines through the Medical & Academic Partnerships (MAP) grants and awards. The Fellowships and Scholars Grants are key among these efforts, and the Pfizer Visiting Professorships continue to be a resource for in-depth, clinically focused exchange between medical schools and host organizations and outside scholar-scientists.
 

Philippe Foundation Grants
Grants are designed to facilitate the exchange of scientists and doctors between the United States and France for research related endeavors. The Foundation assists doctors and scientists who already have a salary or other source of support. Deadline Note: Continuous but see announcement.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Though RWJF does not fund international projects, it may be useful in funding or reporting on projects relevant to GH.

Rockefeller Brothers Fund
Grants represent the core of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund’s operations. The Fund awards grants throughout the year to support a variety of charitable projects in the U.S. and abroad seeking to expand knowledge, clarify values and critical choices, nurture creative expression, and shape public policy.
