The Facility

The Blanche and A. Levine Swimming Pool Recreation Area offers lap swimming and occasional aquatic exercise offerings in a 75-foot pool. A lifeguard is on duty during swimming hours, which include women-only and men-only time frames. Swimming aids, such as kick boards and lap counters, may be borrowed at poolside. Individual instruction is available for an additional fee and can be arranged with help from center managers. The pool area is temperature-controlled, as is the poolside whirlpool.

The center’s gymnasium features a full-size basketball court and two half-size basketball courts, which also can be used for indoor soccer, volleyball and badminton. Overlooking the gym is the indoor running track, which offers two lanes for keeping up with your running or walking, no matter what the weather is outside.

A racquetball court and squash court offer the opportunity to get a good workout or compete in occasional tournaments sponsored by the center. Individual instruction is available for an additional fee, and can be arranged with help from center staff. Racquets and balls may be borrowed and reservation may be in person or on the phone. You also can fill out a game partner request card, or ask to view cards of those looking for a match.

Two rooms offer weight-training stations and free weights. Training assistance can be offered for toning, circuit training, power training and injury rehabilitation. A third room multipurpose offers a variety of fitness and recreational options, including table tennis, aerobic machines and fitness-training equipment.

Locker rooms for women and men offer a limited number of rental lockers, with additional lockers for daily use. Each features several shower stalls, a sauna and a steam room. Locker rooms remain open for a half-hour after activity areas have been closed. Use of the showers also is available free to bike commuters, regardless of whether they are members of the center. (Those who are not members must request a “shower pass” at the front desk; use of the facilities is limited to the showers, unless the individual purchases a guest pass or membership.)

The center’s Library Etc. Borrow Box offers books, videos and DVDs available for short-term or long-term loan. See a manager for details.
