Face to Face Training

Please read all the information below, then register for face to face training. 

Prior to registering for the face to face portion of the IACUC training, YOU MUST have completed the CITI Animal Research Module.  Below are the online training requirements for each face to face training session.  As a reminder, you may not handle live animals in the laboratory or the animal facilties until you have received an e-mail notification from the IACUC that you have been approved as laboratory personnel.

Sterile Survival Surgery for Rodents - Principles & Practices Hands-On 

Mandatory if Performing Rodent Survival Surgery 

Please note that you must participate in Hands-On portion of training session 

Module(s) related to specific rodent trainee will handle in the laboratory 

Minimizing Pain and Distress 

Aseptic Surgery

Safe and Humane Rodent Handling, Anesthesia, Analgesia and Euthanasia Hands-On 

Mandatory for All Handling Rodents 

Please note that you must participate in Hands-On portion of training session

Mandatory for All Performing Survival Surgery on Non-Rodent Species

Minimizing Pain and Distress 

Aspetic Surgery 

  • Upon registering for face to face training sessions, you will receive 1 automated confirmation of registration. You will NOT receive any other reminders.
  • If you are 15 minutes late, you will not be allowed to take part in the training session and your PI will be charged a $25.00 non-attendance fee. 
  • If you are unable to attend, you must notify the IACUC twenty-four (24) hours in advance by e-mail (iacuc@einstein.yu.edu), as only e-mail notifications will be accepted. Failure to do so will result in a $25.00 fee being charged to the PI.
  • For the HANDS-ON courses please be sure to bring a laboratory coat as participation is mandatory.

PLEASE NOTE: The training sessions listed below are offered on an as per need basis:   

  • How to Write Your Animal Use Protocol for Speedy Approval
  • Animal Necropsy Techniques - The purpose is to help researchers to identify tissues and organs and how to appropriately handle those tissues for their research.

If you are interested in either training session, have any other training needs, or wish individualized training to utilize a specific technique in animals not covered in the above noted training session, please contact the IACUC Education Subcommittee at 718.839.7145.
