An expert in diabetes prevention, Dr. Crandall is a principal investigator in the NIH-funded Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study, which showed that sustaining weight loss or taking an anti-diabetic drug can stave off type 2 diabetes in people at high risk for the disease. The American Diabetes Association recently funded Dr. Crandall to study whether the wine ingredient resveratrol can prevent diabetes in patients with prediabetes.

Dr. Crandall is leader of the Clinical Research Methodology Unit of Einstein’s Diabetes Research Center and clinical core director for the LonGenity research study, which is investigating the genetic basis for exceptional longevity. Her research focuses on age-related changes in glucose metabolism and the relationship between high blood-sugar levels (hyperglycemia) and cardiovascular risk. Dr. Crandall is an attending physician at the Montefiore Medical Center Diabetes Clinic and maintains an active consultative practice in endocrinology.
