Students
Update: October 29 at 11:30 AM
Classes of 2013 and 2014: Please see the important e-mail concerning transportation, sent from the office of student affairs at 11:30.
Due to Hurricane Sandy, classes for 1st and 2nd year students have been cancelled.
3rd and 4th year students should follow clerkship-specific guidelines and make any arrangements for safe transport and overnight accommodations, as necessary.
Third-Year Clerkships:
Third-year students are expected to be on service if the school's transportation is operating. Students are advised to confirm that the site is open, especially for family medicine, geriatrics, or any ambulatory assignment. If transportation was not operating early in the day, or if there were delays, students should check with Security at 718-430-2180 to find out when transportation will be available, since the clerkships will expect students at the hospitals once service resumes. Any student who can walk or safely arrange alternative transportation is encouraged to report for duty as originally scheduled. Students are advised to contact their site leaders to let them know when they will be reporting for duty. Official snow days that result in no transportation service being provided will not count as absences. End of clerkship examinations will take place on the scheduled day and students are expected to be present, even if the school is officially closed. This may entail students needing to arrange for overnight housing on or close to campus in advance of any storm.
Fourth-Year Rotations:
Fourth-year students doing their Sub-Internships are expected to be at work as they function as substitute interns. They should anticipate transportation delays or cessation of service and plan in advance to be at the hospital on time to provide patient care. In some cases, this may necessitate making arrangements with the site leader for staying at the hospital or in walking distance. Students on other required rotations (ambulatory and neurology) and electives should report to duty whenever transportation services resume. Any student who can walk or safely arrange alternative transportation is encouraged to report for duty. All students on ambulatory rotations are advised to confirm that their site is open that day and to contact their site leaders to let them know when they will be reporting for duty. End of clerkship examinations will take place on the scheduled day and students are expected to be present, even if the school is officially closed. This may entail students needing to arrange for overnight housing on or close to campus in advance of any storm.
Ph.D. & M.D./Ph.D. Students:
All graduate courses are cancelled. Students should be sure to contact laboratory PI's about ongoing and essential research work.
